Synergy is the highest activity of life; it creates new untapped alternatives; it values and exploits the mental, emotional, and psychological differences between people. ”
—S. Covey

You know how it feels when you have a task that you just don't want to do? You cannot seem to concentrate ... time drags on, and you feel as if you will never be done.

How about a time when you cannot wait to get at a project? You are excited and full of energy and creativity, and time seems to fly by.

The difference can be summed up in one word: Motivation

Motivation: We hear the term often. Generally we associate the word with human behavior, meaning a state of mind that moves us to action, and even though few of us have had formal training in it, it’s one of those characteristics of life that seems to fit the old adage, “I know it when I see it. ”

In the field of workplace collaboration, motivation has great meaning and importance, because it has been the most significant outcome of worker involvement. As the collaboration trend - and more specifically, the use of employee teams - continues to grow, one question that is taking on greater importance is how to keep the team motivated over the long haul.
